We want all people with disability to feel welcome and safe in the sport and recreation community. However, when you can’t find opportunities it’s easy to feel excluded or like it just isn’t for you. That’s why Disability Sport & Recreation (DSR) and SOLVE Disability Solutions (SOLVE) are teaming up to bring greater inclusion and access to Victoria.

This three-year partnership hopes to create positive and accessible opportunities for people with disability to try new activities. When it comes to sport and recreation, we believe in creating equal and meaningful opportunities. Access to these opportunities is a human right. Whether it’s for health, enjoyment or building connections.

SOLVE has been producing creative and practical solutions to help people of all ages and backgrounds break down access barriers. SOLVE works closely with their clients to build, adapt and design equipment to suit their unique needs. Always with the individuals' goals, safety and access needs in mind. The custom Assistive Technology service is overseen by experienced Occupational Therapists. They create anything from custom walkers to help you stroll down the beach, steps to reach your trampoline, modified cutlery and so much more.

Their services are open to all Victorians and are making strides in helping people access activities they experience barriers in. Don’t take our word for it, check out Anthony’s experience with SOLVE Disability Solutions:

As part of the collaboration, SOLVE will help facilitate and organise events with DSR. These events support and provide opportunities for people with disability to get active on their own terms. People with disabilities can try new activities in a safe, positive, fun and accessible environment. They will also be able to discover new ways to be a part of the sport and recreation community. If there is a barrier to an activity they want to be a part of, DSR and SOLVE love finding ways to overcome it. You are sure to find SOLVE in some of DSR’s events throughout the next three years, including the DSR Festival and other community events.

We are excited to grow with SOLVE. There is so much we can learn from each other. And, in turn, we can use our collective knowledge to uplift community. Through training, productive feedback, solid communication and support we are confident we will thrive together.

“We are delighted to formalize this partnership with DSR. Both organisations aim to empower people to enjoy meaningful sport and recreation. We are confident that the synergies will benefit everybody in our community.” - Tim Marchinton from SOLVE Disability Solutions.

If you’re excited about everything SOLVE is doing like we are, you can get involved in a new challenge. Ready, Set, Move is a physical challenge participants complete in November and fundraise to help kids and adults living with a disability to experience meaningful movement, sometimes for the very first time. Decide whether you want to walk, run, wheel, cycle, skate, swim, golf, squat, or complete pushups. DSR has set up our team and is getting moving.
