Karla - Manager of Fundrasing & Events

Part of Karla's role includes coordinating all of our dedicated fundraisers. She has been at DSR for 16 years! People who are prepared to have a go inspire her. Karla loves watching the juniors go off to camp, not knowing anyone, alone and shy and then watching them come home with a smile from ear to ear, with a bus load of new friends. She is one of the biggest providers of positivity in the office, her mantra is “brighten the corner where you are and you will light the world.”

Jared - Manager of Business Development & Marketing

Jared started working at DSR in January 2011. Jared wanted to work for DSR because of the culture and infectious enthusiasm for providing quality services to people with disability. You may recognise him from our 2010 Disability Sport and Recreation Festival – he played in the final of the Corporate Wheelchair Basketball Challenge. Jared currently has a bet with the Manager of Sport and Recreation, which he hopes will result in Joe having to wear a Liverpool Football Club shirt (Joe is an Everton fan). We’ll let you know who wins.

Sean - Rehabilitation to Recreation Program Coordinator

As Rehabilitation to Recreation Program Coordinator, Sean organises the three components of the R2R program, which aim to assist in the transition from rehabilitation back into the community. He says he chose to work at DSR because he wanted to be more active and if he could work doing that it would hardly feel like a job. If you love your job you don’t have to go to work. Want to inspire Sean? Give him an example of achievement against the odds.

Freya - Sport & Recreation Coordinator

As a Sport and Recreation Coordinator, Freya has a portfolio of sports that she maintains and helps slot members into a program they will enjoy. Her most memorable day at DSR was the first session of a new wheelchair rugby program. A brand new member who was still in rehab was throwing her the ball. Freya still remembers that the light in his eyes outshone his disability. He was ecstatic to know that he was still going to be able to participate in sport despite his disability. She enjoys providing sporting opportunities for people who need a little extra advocating for, and finds the position highly rewarding. Freya keeps fit by cycling everywhere (even work) and playing netball.

Rae - Fundraising Team Member

Rae has been a part of the fundraising department at DSR since November 1986. Needless to say, she has enjoyed meeting many amazing individuals. She has dedicated her time to helping people the best way she can. Inspired by everyday challenges, Rae believes everyone should make the most of now and enjoy it. When she’s not working, Rae spends her time gardening and listening to music.

Barbie - Fundraising Team Member

Barbie is a fundraiser for all of our disabled sports events. She’s been with us since March 1993. Barbie has always been quite active, but these days prefers spectator sports like downhill skiing, swimming and golf. She loves the concept of helping and supporting people, as well as sport and recreation. DSR is a great mix of the two! One of her best days at DSR was when she won back to back ‘Star of the Month.’ You’ll find her on the phone in the fundraising department, having a chat with one of our many supporters.
